Global Mystery Skype

Yesterday we had the opportunity to do our first Global Mystery Skype. Our Mystery Skypes before this were all in the United States.

We narrowed down the location of the other 3rd grade class by asking yes and no questions about which hemisphere and continent they live in. We learned that they lived in the north western hemisphere but were not part of North America. That left us with only a few countries in South America. We discovered that they lived in Venezuela. That was pretty easy. They learned that we were from the United States pretty quickly.

Our biggest challenge was finding their state and city. Our first map did not have their state. We had to ask many questions. We had zero states left. We scrambled to find other maps and then we found it...Anzoategui!

We learned that their city bordered the Caribbean Sea. A few hints later we learned that they lived in Puerto La Cruz.

Continent: South America
Country: Venzuela
State: Anzoategui
City: Puerto La Cruz

In the end, we visited and asked each other questions. We shared and compared information about each of our schools. We were amazed to learn that their school has around 200 students in Pre-School through 12th grade! We have around 300 students in Pre-School through 5th grade. Puerto La Cruz is warm all year long. We have hot summers and cold winters. Both classes like pizza! The students from Puerto La Cruz also like empanadas. We have a few students who eat them also. Our class would like to learn more about them.

We had so much fun learning about where the other classroom is from!
